On May 15, 2000 International Post-Graduate Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPG PAS) has been founded at the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Chemical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Growing interest and increasing number of post-graduate students from Eastern Europe stimulated the foundation of IPG PAS. Henceforth, there appeared a unique in history opportunity to bind the current and future scientific staff from Ukraine and other interested countries with Poland and polish intellectual and cultural heritage. This gave as well the possibility of increasing of quality of postgraduate students and therefore scientific results of institutions forming IPG PAS. Numerous renowned institutes joined the International Post-Graduate Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Today there are 234 post-graduate students in IPG PAS, 66 out of Poland - 53 from Ukraine alone. There exists a capability of increasing that number if substantial financial possibilities would be found, especially for scholarships and costs of travelling of students. The good cooperation of IPG PAS with Polish National Ministry of Education also ought to be mentioned. Due to this fact several four years scholarship funds for foreigners has been obtained: 10 in 2000, 5 in 2001, 8 in 2002 and 15 in 2003.
